Marium M Habib (b. 1993) is an artist from Karachi, Pakistan, she graduated from Wimbledon College of Arts, University of the Arts London, with a degree in Fine Art: Painting in 2018. She currently divides her time between Karachi and London. Her practice includes chalk pastels on paper, oil on canvas as well as watercolors/ gouache.

Macro social, political, and cultural issues plague our psyches and understanding how they manifest themselves in my life is my main area of inquiry. Growing up in post-colonial Pakistan confronted me with several physical and psychological dialectical phenomena and so I endeavour to embody the 1970’s feminist slogan "the personal is political” in my practice. Staying within the personal sphere frees me of the danger being presumptuous.

As my work is largely confessional I use personal images I have collected over time as my source material. I abstract them slightly and use the figures and symbols to invoke a psychological narrative as I explore identity, culture and gender.
