Ceramics on the Wheel with Amanda Cotton

This beginner’s private lesson is the perfect way to learn a new skill and create your own hand-made ceramic pots. During the lesson you will experience what it’s like to create pots on the potter’s wheel. Kicking off with a demonstration, you will watch Amanda in action. Then it’s your turn; Amanda will tailor the lesson to your needs depending on your experience and capabilities. Explaining each stage, Amanda will help you create two pots and experience different techniques on the wheel. Towards the end, there will be time to explore and practice what you’ve learnt. Your pots will be bisque fired and ready for collection after two weeks. If you wish, you can share the experience by bringing a friend for free. (Time on the wheel will be shared equally and you create one pot each).

  • Includes: 1.5 hours of private tuition with sculptor Amanda Cotton, two bisque fired pots and all equipment needed for the lesson
  • Ideal for: Anyone and everyone. Person’s under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult
  • Includes a FREE Glaze Workshop! You can glaze (colour) your two pots by returning to the studio for a second time!

Ceramic Socials with Amanda Cotton

The perfect session to spend time expressing your creativity and socializing with like-minded people. Come as a group or an individual, everyone is welcome. To begin the session, Amanda will share her ceramic knowledge and skills, including a variety of examples. Amanda will inspire you to put these skills into practice as you explore and experiment with clay through group interaction, before creating an object of your choice. If you have always wanted to create a pot, cup, sculpture or are curious to experience what clay feels like, this is the session for you. Your piece will be bisque fired and ready for collection after two weeks. Amanda will tailor the session to your needs. Ceramic techniques will vary each week with a mixture of hand-building, mould-making, throwing on the wheel, casting and surface decoration. Feel free to bring your own drinks / snacks, this is a social after all.

  • Includes: Two hours of ceramic fun with up to five other like-minded people and sculptor Amanda Cotton. Plus, one bisque fired piece and all equipment needed for the session
  • Ideal for: Anyone over 18 years of age

Body Casting with Amanda Cotton

Body casts are considered the perfect way to capture a memory, through the folds of your skin, your body can tell a story. In this body casting session, you can tell your story by creating an exact replica of your hand. If you are creative and enjoy being hands on, this is a great session for you. Come as a couple, group or an individual, everyone is welcome. To begin the session, Amanda will share her knowledge and skills, including a variety of examples. After testing the materials, you will create a mould of your hand. If you come as a couple/group it is possible to join hands. Following Amanda’s instruction, you will cast your mould in plaster creating an exact replica of your hand. Although your piece will take up to two weeks to fully dry, it can be taken away with you there and then to enjoy.

  • Ideal for: Anyone and everyone. Person’s under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult
  • Includes: Three hours of sculpture with up to three other like-minded people and sculptor Amanda Cotton. Plus, one plaster cast of your hand & all equipment needed for the session
  • Casting Material: Used by medical professionals across the globe, this is perfectly safe. Unfortunately, it cannot be used with broken or irritated skin. A skin test will be done before we begin casting. For questions around sensitivity please contact us directly before booking

About Amanda Cotton - sculpture teacher

British artist Amanda Cotton lives and creates contemporary sculpture in London. This Masters of Art & Design graduate is a specialist in 3D materials practice via mold-making, ceramics and composites. Amanda learnt how to manipulate materials during her time at The University of Brighton and picked up skills during her time in France.

Known internationally for her ‘Body of Work’, Amanda’s sculpture has been a global topic of conversation. Using a durational analysis of her lifestyle and own bodies’ materials, Amanda’s versatile approach crafts the human body into contemporary sculpture. Her aim is to question personal significance & identity enabling the audience to make direct comparisons and connections between themselves and her practice.

Watercolour workshop with Gillian Burrows

Gillian has been tutoring watercolour and ink since the 1980’s, working for South West Hertfordshire Adult Education, Painting workshops for corporate companies in Canary Wharf.

Introduction
to Watercolour

Learning to mix colours using a limited colour palette. Using brush and water techniques. Step by step, taking you through the process and painting a simple landscape exercise.

Landscape

Landscape, learning to paint trees, practicing with brush drawing. Building up the painting from far away to near using tones of the limited colour palette.

Flowers

Practice using brush to paint flowers and leaves then applying a wet into wet watercolour technique to paint the background.

Pen and Watercolour

First learning to use the pen and nib. Exercises to draw different lines and shapes. Paint a simple watercolour landscape using the techniques learnt, then when it is dry use the pen and ink to enhance the image.

Life Drawing with Daniela Galan

Daniela Galan is a Colombian artist graduated of Fine Arts and History of Art from Goldsmiths University. Since she started her career as an artist she has been working at the intersection of contemporary art practice, sculpture and philosophy.

Come down to Trinity Art Studios in October to enjoy, learn and deepen your Life Drawing skills with tutor Daniela Galan. You will explore and develop your personal approach to drawing in relation to a dressed life model; discovering a range of expressive responses to the human form and its surrounding environment.
